Dear Road Church Friends,

Carl Sandberg, gifted poet and famous biographer of Abraham Lincoln, has also bequeathed us a pearl of wisdom when he said, Time is the most valuable coin in your life. You and you alone will decide how it is spent. Be careful that you don’t let other people spend it for you.

Most of us have probably had the experience of attending an event of some kind and afterwards say to ourselves, “I’ll never get those two hours back again.” Time is precious, and wasted time can never be recovered. We are careful how we spend our money. But how prudent are we about how we spend our time? The time of our lives is far more precious that the money in our bank accounts. Wise use of our time rewards us with an abiding happiness while the happiness that money buys soon fades away.

The Apostle Paul wrote: “Make the most of every opportunity.” Then he tells us how to do that on a daily basis: make music in your heart; show gratitude; be humble. More about this on Sunday.

SCRIPTURE: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8    SERMON: “Living Between Now and Then”

For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest. A time to kill and a time to heal. A time to tear down and a time to build up. A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance. A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones. A time to embrace and a time to turn away. A time to search and a time to quit searching. A time to keep and a time to throw away. A time to tear and a time to mend. A time to be quiet and a time to speak. A time to love and a time to hate. A time for war and a time for peace.

THANKS BE TO GOD

by Janie Alford

I do not thank Thee, Lord, that I have bread to eat while others starve;

Nor yet for work to do while empty hands solicit Heaven;

Nor for a body strong while other bodies flatten beds of pain.

No, not for these do I give thanks!

But I am grateful, Lord, because my meager loaf I may divide,

For that my busy hands may move to meet another’s need;

Because my doubled strength I may expend to steady one who faints.

Yes, for all these do I give thanks!

Blessings to you all,

Pastor Norm Erlendson
