Dear Road Church Friends,

The second Sunday of Advent is dedicated to the theme of Peace. The theme of my message is “Peace with God.” When we find peace with God, our journey to perfect peace begins. God walks with us on this path and helps us find peace within ourselves. Then we discover the desire and ability to make peace with others, and to be at peace with the world. May the Peace of God that passes understanding be with you.

SCRIPTURES

Romans 5:1-8

Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Indeed, rarely will anyone die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person someone might actually dare to die. But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us.

 John 14:27

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.

 Matthew 5:9

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

SERMON TITLE:  Advent Peace is Peace with God

POEM

Drop thy still dews of quietness,

Till all our strivings cease;

Take from our souls the strain and stress,

And let our ordered lives confess

The beauty of thy peace.

Breathe through the hearts of our desire

Thy coolness and thy balm;

Let sense be dumb, let flesh retire;

Speak through the earthquake, wind and fire,

O still small voice of calm.

by John Greenleaf Whittier

ADVENT PRAYER

Lord Jesus, sweet child of Bethlehem, pour into our hearts the peace that we so desperately seek and which you alone can give us. Help us to draw together as one people, to live together as brothers and sisters, under one Heavenly Father. Kindle within us a spirit of gratitude and mutual respect. Knit our hearts together in love. Amen.

 Advent blessings of peace, hope and love to all,

Pastor Norm
