Dear Road Church Friends,
On this Pentecost Sunday, which is the early summer festival of first fruits on the Jewish calendar—we celebrate the founding of the Christian church by gathering around the Lord’s Table in remembrance of him who died for us. We also welcome as our guest speaker a representative of Care Net, one of the local missions that we support.
ACTS 2:1-4
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a rushing sound like a mighty wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Flickering tongue-like flames, appeared and a hovered over each of them. All were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.
HYMN #461 “Breathe On Me, Breath of God”
PSALM 122:1
“I rejoiced with those who said, let us go to the house of the Lord.”
THIS DAY IN HISTORY
On June 3, 1674 the Church of Christ at Stonington, the “Road Church,” was formally organized. The names of the founding members were: James Noyes, Thomas Stanton, Nathaniel Chesebrough, Thomas Miner, Nehemiah Palmer, Ephrain Miner, Thomas Stanton, Jr., Moses Palmer, Thomas Wheeler.
WE LOVE THE VENERABLE HOUSE
We love the venerable house our fathers built to God,
In heaven are kept their grateful vows, their dust endears the sod.
Here holy thoughts a light have shed from many a radiant face,
And prayers of humble virtue spread the perfume of the place.
And anxious hearts have pondered here the mystery of life,
And prayers th’ Eternal Light to clear their doubts and aid their strife.
They live with God, their homes are dust, yet here their children pray,
And in this fleeting life-time trust to find the narrow way.

A PRAYER FOR PENTECOST
O Holy Spirit, Mighty Wind of God, descend on us, we pray. Bring heaven’s light to our dark places. Bring order to the chaos of our lives. Bring fresh wind and fire to our heart and soul. Breathe into us new life. Make us your new creation by the saving power of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Blessings to all,
Pastor Norm
