Dear Road Church Friends,
Once again we find ourselves in a new month which means this Sunday is a Communion Service. I hope you can join us in person, but if not then in spirit. It will be a time of music, prayer, remembrance and personal rededication. Instead of a sermon there will be a brief Communion Reflection to prepare our hearts to partake of the supper.
SCRIPTURE READINGS
Luke 19:1-10
When Jesus came to Jericho, a rich tax collector named Zacchaeus was trying to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was short in stature. So he ran ahead and climbed a tree to see him. When Jesus passed by, he looked up and said, “Zacchaeus, come down; for I’d like to dine at your house today.” This made him so happy he said, “I will donate half of what I have to the poor; and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will pay back four times as much.” Many in the crowd grumbled and said, “How dare he eat with one who is a sinner.” But Jesus said, “Today salvation has come to this house.”
Luke 24:28-35
As they came near the village to which they were going, the stranger walked ahead as if he were going on. But they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, because the day is now nearly over.” So he stayed with them. When he was at the table with them, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. In that moment they recognized him; It was Jesus! Then he vanished from their sight. They said to each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he was talking to us on the road, opening the scriptures to us?” They got up and hurried back to Jerusalem. When they found the eleven and their companions gathered together, they told them what had happened on the road, and how they encountered him in the breaking of the bread.
REFLECTION: “Encountering Jesus”
HE IS A PATH
He is a path if any be misled, he is a robe if any naked be,
If any chance to hunger, He is bread,
If any be a bondsman, He is free,
If any be but weak, how strong is He!
To dead men, life is He, to sick men, health,
To blind men sight, and to the needy, wealth,
A pleasure without loss, a treasure without stealth.

May the grace of Jesus Christ, the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you.
