Dear Road Church Friends,

This coming Sunday is a Communion Service. Our Missions Team has also arranged for Marilyn Lowney, daughter of Dr. Lowney, founder of Haitian Health Foundation, to bring us a report on the current crisis in Haiti, and to share opportunities how we might be able to lend a helping hand to alleviate the suffering there that is so widespread.

The first Sunday in November is when All Saints Day is observed, so I will share a few thoughts about that as we prepare to partake of the Lord’s Supper.

SCRIPTURE: Colossians 4:2-6      SERMON:  “Salty Saints”

“Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with thanksgiving. At the same time pray for us as well that God will open to us a door for the word, that we may declare the mystery of Christ, for which I am in prison, so that I may reveal it clearly, as I should. Conduct yourselves wisely toward outsiders, making the most of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer everyone.”

POEM:  At Set of Sun by George Eliot

If you sit down at set of sun, and count the acts that you have done,

And, counting find one self denying deed, one word

That eased the heart of him that heard,—one glance most kind

That fell like sunshine where it went,—then you may count that day well spent.

PRAYER

Almighty God, we offer you most high praise and hearty thanks for the wonderful graces and virtues which we have seen in all the saints who have crossed our path in life. Thank you for those who have been the salt of the earth, and lights in the world to us. Today we remember family, friends, teachers, coworkers and all the people whose words and deeds have inspired and helped us to become the person we are today. Bless and keep them all, until that day when all the saints go marching in to your eternal dwelling.

Blessings to all,

Pastor Norm
