Dear Road Church Friends,
The Story of Jesus Feeding a Jewish crowd of more than 5000 people who had followed him into a wilderness area is one of the most amazing and significant events in his ministry. It is the only event that all four Gospels mention from his ministry in Galilee, (Mk 6:30-44; Mt 14:13-21; Lk 9:10-17; John 6:1-14). This suggests that Jesus’ miracle of providing bread in the wilderness for himself and this great multitude was remembered as the outstanding miracle of his life. When he was alone in the wilderness he refused to make bread only for himself. But he had no problem providing bread in the wilderness for others. Jesus used the miracle of feeding the 5000 to tell his disciples that providing food for the hungry is something they should do,—and can do with God’s help, no matter how meager their resources. Join us on Sunday to hear more about this remarkable story, and to share in Communion, and to enjoy refreshments, and a social time after our morning service..
SCRIPTURE: Matthew 14:14-21 SERMON: Bread in the Wilderness
When Jesus saw a large crowd approaching, he felt compassion for them so he spent the rest of the day healing everyone who was sick. That evening the disciples came to Jesus and said, “This place is deserted, and it is already late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy some food.” Jesus replied, “They don't have to leave. Why don't you give them something to eat?” But they said, “All we have are five small loaves of bread and two fish.” What good is that? Jesus asked his disciples to bring what they had to him, and he told the crowd to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he blessed the food. Then he broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and they gave it to the people. After everyone had eaten all they wanted, Jesus' disciples filled twelve large baskets of leftovers. There were about five thousand men who ate, not counting the women and children.
ANYWAY
by Mother Theresa
People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered.
Forgive them anyway.
If you are king, people may accuse you of ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies.
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you.
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight.
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will forget tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough.
Give the best you’ve got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis it is between you and God.
It was never between you and them anyway.
Blessings to you all,
Pastor Norm
