Dear Road Church Friends,
Tomorrow is communion once again. In the Gospel of John Jesus is telling the listening crowd about the story of the manna, the bread that God sent the people every morning to sustain them during their journey in the wilderness to the Land of Promise. Jesus sees his mission as himself being our bread from God. In what way is Jesus our living bread? Gather with us to think on these things.
SCRIPTURE: John 6:30-35 SERMON: Bread from Heaven
The crowd answered, “Show us a miraculous sign if you want us to believe in you. What can you do? After all, our ancestors ate manna while they journeyed through the wilderness! The Scriptures say, Moses gave them bread from heaven to eat.
Jesus answered back, “I tell you the truth, Moses didn’t give you bread from heaven. My Father did. And he offers it to you now. I am the bread from heaven. The true bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” “Sir,” they said, “give us that bread every day.” Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty again.”
A PRAYER
by Edwin Markham
Teach me Father how to be kind and patient as a tree.
Joyfully the crickets croon under the shady oak at noon.
Beetle, on his mission bent, tarries in that cooling tent.
Let me, also cheer a nook, place for friendly bread and book.
Place where passing souls can rest, on the way, and be their best.
Blessings to you all,
Pastor Norm
